Two-day training workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation successfully concluded in Leh

Leh, 12 Nov : A two-day training workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) concluded today with great enthusiasm and active participation from officials of the Planning Development and Monitoring Department (PD&MD). 

The workshop was organised by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES), UT Ladakh, under the Statistical Strengthening (SSS) Sub-Scheme of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The training was conducted in collaboration with expert resource persons from the Development Monitoring & Evaluation Office (DMEO), NITI Aayog.

Sh Konchok Gyalson, Joint Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, UT Ladakh, graced the inaugural session along with Sh. Tsewang Gyalson, Chief Planning Officer, Leh; and Sh. Kacho Mohd, District Statistics & Evaluation Officer, Kargil.

The workshop was successfully facilitated by resource persons from DMEO, Ms Ishika Kumar, Ms Aditya Kumari, and Ms Renu Agarwal, who shared their expertise and guided participants through practical exercises and discussions. A total of 55 officials from PD&MD attended the training with keen interest and active engagement.

Over the course of two days, participants were introduced to the core concepts, tools, and methodologies of Monitoring and Evaluation, aimed at enhancing their capacity for evidence-based planning and performance tracking of government programmes and schemes.

The first day focused on foundational concepts of M&E, including the Theory of Change analysis, Logical Framework Approach (LFA), Designing SMART indicators, Group exercises on Logical Framework formulation, Hands-on training on developing logical frameworks and designing measurable indicators for monitoring projects and schemes.

Similarly, the second day emphasised the evaluation aspect of M&E, covering Evaluation processes and impact assessment, Differences between Monitoring and Evaluation, Types, and approaches of evaluation, REESI + CE Framework for evaluation, Data collection methodologies, also the hands-on exercises on developing Evaluation Matrices

Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in interactive discussions and group activities designed to bridge theory and practice.

The resource persons from DMEO provided valuable insights into modern evaluation techniques and emphasised the importance of data-driven decision-making for effective governance.

The workshop concluded with the felicitation of the resource persons from DMEO, NITI Aayog, in recognition of their valuable contributions and insightful sessions throughout the two-day training.

In his concluding remarks, Sh. Konchok Gyalson, Joint Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, UT Ladakh, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the resource persons for their dedicated efforts in imparting practical knowledge and building the capacities of officials in the crucial domain of Monitoring and Evaluation and acknowledged the active participation and enthusiasm of all the officers and officials from the Planning Development and Monitoring Department (PD&MD).
