Srinagar: Five people including a trooper were injured when unknown persons hurled a grenade at the picket of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
Correspondent from North Kashmir said that panic gripped Shah Faisal Market near Bus Stand Sopore when Reports unknown militants lobbed a grenade at the picket of CRPF 179 Battalion around 10:45 this morning. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to four civilians and a trooper. All the injured were rushed to sub-district hospital for treatment.
The injured have been identified Mohammad Ayub Shala, son of Abdul Gaffar of Model Town, Bilal Ahmad Langoo, son of Mohammad Amin of Noorbagh, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, son of Abdul Samad of Rafiabad and Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Sheikh. The trooper has been identified as Constable Anil Kumar.
The grenade explosion, Correspondent said triggered panic in the busy market place where scores of shoppers had thronged early morning. The shopkeepers downed their shutters while the pedestrians were seen running helter skelter. The movement of traffic was also hit due to the commotion that continued for over an hour.
“Today morning militants hurled grenade at the CRPF picket near Bus Stand, Sopore which exploded on the road resulting in injuries to three civilians and a CRPF man. Police has registered a case in this regard,†a police spokesman in a statement issued here said.
