Top Militant Commanders Among 11 Killed in Shopian

SRINAGAR, April 01(KMW): Some Top commanders are among eleven militants who were killed and four army men sustained injuries in two separate encounters in south Kashmir’s Shopian district today , Sources said.

Eleven militants have been killed in the twin operations at Dragad and Kachdoora areas of Shopian district. seven militants were killed at Dragad and four killed in Kachdora.

Four army soldiers have also received injuries in the operation and were shifted to military hospital, Srinagar for treatment.

Among the injured, two soldiers were identified as NK Shrikant and Sepoy Hariom.

More than a dozen persons were injured in clashes that ensued at both the places following the encounters.

Some of the injured have been referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

The gunfight at both the places broke out late last night after a joint team of army’s 44 RR, 3 RR, 34 RR, SOG and CRPF cordoned off both the places.

Earlier, a militant Rouf Bashir Khanday was killed and his associate Imran Rashid was arrested alive during an overnight gunfight at Peth Dialgam in Anantnag district.
