Three persons arrested in Delhi’s Dwarka acid attack case

New Delhi, Dec 24  Three persons were arrested for allegedly involved in an acid attack on a minor school girl in Delhi’s Dwarka area, police said on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Sachin Arora (20) who used to do wallpaper work, Harshit Aggarwal (19) alias Honey, who worked as a packing attendant in a private company and Virender Singh (22) alias Sonu, he works as a generator mechanic, said Police. On the basis of technical evidence it has been found that the accused procured acid from an online shopping site.
The Police received a PCR call at around 9 am regarding an incident of throwing acid on a girl in the area of Mohan Garden Police Station. It was stated that a 17-year-old girl was allegedly attacked using acid by two persons on a bike around 7:30 am in the morning, informed Police.
Immediately the police teams rushed to the DDU Hospital and it was found that at around 7:30 am, the victim, a 12th class student, was going to school along with her younger sister. At Verma Chowk, Rama Park area of Mohan Garden Police Station, two persons on a bike came and the pillion rider threw some acid like substance on the girl. The girl was shifted to the hospital where she is under treatment with 8 per cent burn injuries, said Police.
A case under sections 326A/34 IPC was registered at Mohan Garden Police Station and investigation taken up.
Based on information developed from witnesses and local sources, the accused persons were identified and arrested within hours of the incident.
On interrogation, it was revealed that accused Sachin was known to the victim and they were on friendly terms till September this year. They had a fallout after September which led the accused to indulge in this crime. Accused Harshit was driving the motorcycle at the time of the crime. Accused Virender aided the accused persons by being part of the criminal conspiracy, the Police statement said.
In the morning before the incident, he took the scooty and mobile of accused Sachin with him to another location so as to mislead the investigation, it added.
On the acid attack incident, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Chairperson, Swati Maliwal tweeted and wrote, “In the Country’s capital, two miscreants threw acid on a girl in broad daylight and ran away. Is anyone afraid of the law? Why is acid not banned? ”
“Acid was thrown on a girl near Dwarka Mor. Our team is reaching the hospital to help the victim. We will get justice for the daughter. The Delhi Commission for Women has been fighting for years to ban acid in the country. When will the governments wake up?” Maliwal tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Saxena spoke to the Delhi Police Commission regarding this incident.
Delhi Lt Governor spoke to the Police Commissioner about the unfortunate incident of acid attack that took place at Dwarka More today and sought a detailed report into the incident, including as to how the acid used was procured despite a ban in the City, LG Office said in a statement.
