New Delhi, Jan   2022 was a challenging year for the Indian film industry, especially for the Hindi film industry it was a forgettable year.
Several films were finding it hard to survive at the box office and were not able to meet the audience’s expectations. Last year, hardly any made a profitable business at the box office.
Films such as Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’, Ajay Devgan’s Drishyam 2, and Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 were the only successful grossers from the Hindi film industry that could leave their mark at the box office.
‘The Kashmir Files’ has now been shortlisted for Oscars 2023. The maker of the film, Vivek Agnihotri informed about the selection as he took to social media saying, “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: #TheKashmirFiles has been shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of @TheAcademy. It’s one of the 5 films from India. I wish all of them very best. A great year for Indian cinema.”
“I am glad that the Kashmir files has been shortlisted for the oscars 2023. Although, I am out of this award race but this recognition on International level is surely a tight slap to all the people who called it Propaganda. I am happy that now the world is recognising the Kashmiri Hindu Genocide. It is a step further in our mission,” Agnihotri said in a statement.
Lead actor Anupam Kher said in a tweet, “Deeply humbled to see #TheKashmirFiles as a film and my name shortlisted in #BestFilm and #BestActor category for the #Oscars2023! Even as a short list it is a big triumph for us. Congratulations also to other Indian films in the list.”
‘The Kashmir Files’ has made into the top five Indian movies along with RRR, Kantara, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Rocketry-The Nambi Effect.
‘The Kashmir Files’ revolves around the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the year 1990, following systematic killings of people from the community by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
The movie stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar and Pallavi Joshi in the lead roles.
