New Delhi: Giving a call for ‘sampurna kranti’ (total revolution), veteran social activist Anna Hazare and his team yesterday ended their fast for a strong Jan Lokpal and announced the formation of an ‘ alternative’ political party.
Former Army chief Gen V K Singh, who had locked horns with the Central government on the issue of his age, offered coconut water to Hazare and his team members at around 1835 hrs at Jantar Mantar to break their fast.
The 75-year-old Hazare started his hunger strike on Sunday while three Team Anna members– Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai were fasting since July 25.
The announcement of formation of a political party was made by Mr Kejriwal amid cheers by hundreds of Team Anna supporters who gathered at the fast venue.
However, Hazare said he will not contest the elections.
