Sukhnandan inspects various areas of Sgr city in view of raised water level in Jhelum

SRINAGAR, JUNE 25(KMW): Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary, Thursday afternoon inspected various areas of Srinagar city including Zero Bridge, Rajbagh, Kursoo and Silk Factory Road and took stock of the situation arisen due to rising water level in river Jhelum.
While inspecting Old Zero Bridge, the Minister directed the concerned authorities to remove the garbage near bridge which blocks the flow of water in river Jhelum. He also directed for adequate provision of sand bags at some vulnerable locations.
Interacting with the people at different locations, the Minister appealed the people not to panic as entire administration has been put on high alert to meet any emergency, however, he asked the people to remain vigilant about the situation.
Giving details about the measures initiated by the Government, the Minister informed that a control room has been setup in Police Control room Srinagar. The contact numbers of the control room are 2474040, 2450004 and 100. The Minister asked the people to contact these numbers in case of any eventuality.
During the night the Minister along with the Minister for R&B, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari remained present in the control room.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon, IG Police Kashmir range, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Dr. Farooq Ahmed Lone, Chief Engineer I&FC, Mir Javid Jaffar, Chief Engineer PHE, Mr. G. M Bhat, Superintending Engineer Hydraulic, Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed Dar were also available in the control room last night to monitor the situation.
