MANASBAL: Terming students architects of future, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Wednesday asked them to make merit benchmark of their education adding that present day trends in education and technology calls for holistic development of students so that they can compete at all levels and proves their mettle.
Speaking at the Annual Day function of Sainik School at Manasbal, the Chief Minister told the students the merit is only key to the success and they have to exhibit their meritorious capacity and capability to seek admission in reputed colleges and universities, and compete at the national level.
Emphasizing the need of making educational institutions centres of personality development, the Chief Minister said that along with academic excellence imparting of moral education should be the standard in these institutions. He said extra-curricular activities should also form the permanent feature of the syllabus.
The Chief Minister said that present day students have to lead the Country and the State in all spheres of life and they have to prepare themselves for this stupendous task right now to seek the prosperous and squared future of the Country.
Omar Abdullah also announced Rs. 2 crore assistance to the Sainik School, Manasbal for infrastructural development, out of this Rs. one crore will be from the Parliament Member’s Constituency Development Funds of Dr. Farooq Abdullah. He also said that the Government would extent all help to the Sainik School for its overall development.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah asked the management of the School to prepare a proposal for energizing the hostel, kitchen and residential rooms of Sainik School with solar energy. He said his ministry would approve a project in this regard whom the proposal is received by it.
Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayed in his speech said that 60 residential schools are being established in the State in which students of poorer sections would be provided free boarding, lodging and education.
Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul, Legislators, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Ali Mohammad Bhat and senior citizens of the area were present on the occasion.
The Principal of the School projected annual report of the school and said that the school has been founded by Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in 1980 as a first of its kind residential school in the Valley.
The students of the school presented marchpast and a cultural programme.
The Chief Minister also laid foundation of quarters and inspected the computer lab. He also interacted with students and enquire about their education and other aspects of the school.
