Srinagar , February 25:The stray dog menace has hit the length and breadth of the Srinagar city . A delegation from Maisuma and Lalchowk visited the Kashmir Media Watch office today to inform that two kids have been bitten ,and due to menace of dogs children are unable to leave their homes and even elder ones once the clock strikes 8 in the evening.
Pertinent to mention here that stray dogs cause noise pollution, feces garbage and traffic accidents. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are more than 200 million stray dogs worldwide and that every year, 55,000 people die from rabies.
The summer Capital of Srinagar and many district headquarters of Kashmir are facing this problem .
Few years back a count by the municipality found more than 90,000 stray dogs in Srinagar city. Dog bite cases over the year causing death and injury in Kashmir among humans has emerged as a very grim problem.
Few years back the unofficial estimates and local NGOs put the number of dogs in the valley at more than a million, triggering fears of increasing dog-man conflict in the next few years if the dog population is not checked.
In a heart rending incidents in past few years many precious lives were lost in the Kashmir due to dog bites .
Masses are urging the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to take the issue of dog menace head on and found concrete solutions to issue of stray dogs .
Despite repeated attempts the Srinagar Municipal commissioner did not respond on the burning issue.
