Srinagar, May 24: IGP Kashmir Range,  Shiv  Murari Sahai , Tuesday advised the youth particularly students to develop competitive traits  by excelling in education, sports and other co-circular/ extra circular activities while urging  them to stay away from  drugs.Sahai was speaking as guest of honor at a function organised by Kashmir Socio Academy at Delhi Public School, Athwajan. “During his interaction, the IGP discussed with the students the bad effects of the drugs on overall development of youth, particularly the students. He said that addiction not only leaves a person physically weak but also affects mental makeup, thus pushing him into the darkness of depression,†a police spokesman said.He said Sahai also highlighted the “positive intervention†undertaken by Jammu and Kashmir Police by establishing a full-fledged Drug De- Addiction Centre at Police Control Srinagar. Sahai said a trend has been observed “whereby addicts have been found indulging in crimes, like thefts, vehicles lifting, etc.â€He assured the audience that J&K police will continue with its efforts to help youth of the people to come out of this menace by organising community camps at various places particularly which are drug prone. He also participated in the question answer session.Senior National Conference leader and Member Parliament, Dr. Mehboob Beigh, who was the chief guest, appreciated the steps taken by the Jammu and Kashmir police by establishing a Drug De-Addiction centre.  He said that awareness programmes should be organized throughout the state.Earlier the Incharge Police Drug De-Addiction centre Dr. Mohammad Muzaffar Khan gave a comprehensive presentation regarding Drug De-Addiction scenario in Kashmir. Dr. Kasir, Child specialist also delivered a lecture regarding ill effects of drug addiction on the growth of children. The programme was attended by the representative of health and education department, students and staff members of Delhi Public School.
