Srinagar: Felicitating Muslims on the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has said that state terrorism used by “imperialistic†governments to fulfill their expansionist agendas poses the biggest threat to world peace
“We see in Kashmir and Palestine ordinary citizens are the victims of this kind of state sponsored terrorism where two imperialistic powers Israel and India have occupied their neighboring  countries to expand their empires. Similarly, in Iraq and Afghanistan the world has understood that  state terrorism cannot end violence but only boost lawlessness and anarchy,†Geelani said in a statement issued  on Wednesday.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman said it was impossible to control the violence perpetrated by non-state actors unless the ‘root causes’ were not identified and addressed according to the wishes and aspirations of people.
In his congratulatory messages to Muslim world on the start of the Islamic New Year, Geelani said the occasion provides Muslims a chance to retrospect and pledge to go good while hoping for a better future.
Commenting on the situation in Pakistan, Geelani said the country was going through the darkest phase of its history on account of “a web of conspiracies weaved by external forces and the follies of some unwise friends.â€
“The dangerous situation created in that country on sectarian basis is not only an issue of Pakistan but the entire Islamic world. Few extremist elements have become a headache for the whole Islamic world. They are bringing a bad name to Islam by committing their dastardly acts in the name of this peaceful religion,†he said.
Urging  for Shia-Sunni unity, Geelani said it was unfortunate that the holy month of Muharram now raises apprehensions of violence in Pakistan  and “one Muslim has to fear the other.â€
“People encouraging sectarian divide can never be the friends of Islam but only enemies . It is the duty of ideological Islamic parties to stand united against these forces and work for unity among the Ummah,†Geelani said.
