Srinagar: The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu and 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highways were closed for vehicular traffic today following landslides, triggered by heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the entire Kashmir valley was lashed by heavy rains since last evening disrupting normal life.
A traffic police spokesman told that the highway linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was closed today following landslides triggered by heavy rains at Penthal and Ramsu.
It was still raining heavily affecting the road clearance operation, started by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway.
Official sources said that hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers and essentials and fruits were stranded at different places on either side of the Pental.
They said fresh vehicles will be allowed from Jammu and Srinagar once the stranded vehicles are cleared.
