Srinagar: The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National highway was closed yet again due to heavy snowfall at several places.

Official sources said moderate to heavy snowfall was received at Jawahar tunnel, Banihal and Patni Top forcing authorities to suspend the traffic on the highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway have pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the highway.

However, continued snowfall has hampered the snow clearance operation.

Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers and essentials for the Kashmir valley, are stranded at different places on other side of the Banihal.

This was the second time the Kashmir valley was cut off from rest of the country due to closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway following snowfall.
