Srinagar With further improvement in the weather, the authorities have allowed passenger traffic from both sides on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway from today.
However, heavy traffic will continue to ply one-way on the highway, the only road linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
A traffic police official said here today that passenger vehicles were allowed from both sides on the highway following further improvement in the weather.
Today vehicles carrying passengers left Srinagar as well as Jammu, he said.
He said, heavy vehicles, including trucks, will continue to ply one-way till further orders.
Today trucks, carrying essentials will ply from Jammu to Srinagar.
The authorities had allowed only one-way traffic on the highway after heavy snowfall and landslides on the highway, which forced closure of the road for about four days early this month.
The national highway, connecting Ladakh region with the rest of the country remained closed due to snowfall since December Ist last year.
Roads leading to far flung and remote areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in the north Kashmir also remained closed due to snowfall.
