Durban: V V S Laxman missed his century by just four runs as India folded up for 228 in their second innings to leave South Africa a target of 303 runs to win the second cricket Test here today.
The stylish Laxman was unlucky to be last out for 96 as the Indian innings came to an end shortly after the lunch break on a Kingsmead track which seemed to have eased out considerably.
The hosts were 70 for one at tea with Alviro Petersen (24) and Hashim Amla (6) at the crease. Captain Graeme Smith was dismissed for 37 just a few minutes before the tea break.
The South Africans still need 233 runs to win the match and clinch the three-match series by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead.
