Some respite from cold in Kashmir

Srinagar: There was some respite from cold in the Kashmir valley, where maximum temperature improved slightly due to cloudy weather conditions during the night.

After witnessing coldest night of the season so far, world famous health resort of Pahalgam, base camp of Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashsmir Himalayas, sun was out today, providing much needed relief to tourists and locals.

A Met department spokesman said there would be no change in the weather in the Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours.

However, he said, a moderate Western Disturbance (WD) is developing and will touch the region on January 12 and 13 which could cause moderate to heavy rains and snowfall.

He said the temperatures will go down further during the next two days.

Parts of the world famous Dal Lake and other water bodies and taps remained frozen in the summer capital, Srinagar, though the minimum temperature has improved.

However, due to below normal maximum temperature yesterday, the frozen parts could of the Lake, other water bodies and water taps could not get defreezed.

Met spokesman said Srinagar recorded minus 2.8 degree, minimum temperature, about two notches more than yesterday’s.

Snow on roof tops, roadsides, lanes, bylanes and tree tops remained frozen in Srinagar.

People in many areas complained of water shortage because of frozen water tapes. However, people were using different methods to defreeze their taps. (KMW News)
