Shopian returns to normal after 22-days strike

Srinagar: The life in Shopian returned to normal after 22-days of continuous disturbance caused by curfew and the strike against the Gagran civilian killings.
The business establishments opened while the public transport besides private vehicles were seen plying on roads.
According to reports, the people today came out for their routine work after the continuous disturbance that lasted for 22-days including 16-days of curfew and eight days of strike.
The vegetable vendors and the fruit growers of the area were busy in selling their products after the huge losses suffered by them since the Gagran firing incident. The people seen busy buying essentials and the huge rush in the markets was witnessed.
The locals of the area alleged the district administration of not helping them in the turbulent circumstances which made people to face many hardships. “Neither the essentials nor the medicines were provided to the needy by the district administration,” said a local adding that it was only under circumstantial compulsion that they have decided to call-off the strike for some time.
Shopian erupted after the killing of civilians in Gagran shootout involving CRPG personnel. The people of the district demand relocation of the 14-Battalion CRPF camp located in Gagran. The residents of Shopian have given a deadline to the government till 10th of October for the relocation of the CRPF camp.
“If the Government fails to act on relocation of Gagran CRPF camp, we will come on roads and will go for strike for an indefinite period,” said a local while talking.
