Shopian, (KMW News): South Kashmir’s Shopian district observed a complete shutdown on Thursday to mark the fourth anniversary of ‘double rape and murder case’ of Asiya and Neelofar. The strike call was given by Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani.
According to reports the markets in Shopian district wore a deserted look as all the shops, educational institutions, petrol pumps and banks were closed.
Heavy contingent of police and Para-military forces were deployed in the district to thwart any protest. Men in Uniform were seen alert whole day. Mobile bunkers were erected at sensitive locations. A police official said that untoward incident was reported from anywhere and the situation remained completely peaceful.
