Islamabad, April 30 Hamza Shahbaz, eldest son of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was on Saturday sworn-in as the 21st Chief Minister of Punjab province in Pakistan, following the Lahore High Court orders.
National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered him the oath of secrecy in office.
Hamza was elected as the Chief Minister of the province on April 16, but Punjab Governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema postponed the oath-taking ceremony on April 17.
Hamza moved the Lahore HC for the third time on Friday, as his oath-taking ceremony was deferred on several grounds, despite being elected with a clear majority of 197 votes from the Punjab Assembly on April 16, Geo News reported.
Hamza had earlier approached the court on April 21 and 25, it said.
The court directed the NA Speaker to administer the oath to Hamza on April 30.
Hours before the oath-taking ceremony, Punjab Governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, in a surprise move, “rejected” the resignation of Usman Buzdar, saying the Constitutional requirements were not fulfilled, it added.
