Srinagar,(KMW News): After a prolonged ‘veiled’ differences within Hurriyat (M), one of its key constituents Democratic Freedom Party headed by Shabir Ahmad Shah Thursday finally called back its executive member Mehmood Sagar from Pakistani-administrated-Kashmir Chapter stating that Hurriyat has not been able to deliver as per the expectations of the people.
The decision was made in the Party’s apex body meet headed by Shah at Srinagaron Thursday.
“We have been trying for reunification of separatist camps so that we move forward with great strength but unfortunately our efforts went down the drain due to stubbornness of various stake holders which finally forced us to take today’s decision,†Shah told.
He said that following a chain of events that saw disagreements of various separatist leaders to unite and their reluctance to make Hurriyat a state wide vehement organization has forced them to take a tough call. “In 2008, we initiated a process aiming to reunite the Hurriyat camps and sticking them to the basic of 1993 constitution and all the stake holders had even agreed following which two committees were formed with Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and I heading each of them. But unfortunately that did not even materialize,†he lamented.
The senior separatist leader said that his second initiative was to propose a widening the ambit of Hurriyat Conference to the grass roots level. “We had suggested to take Hurriyat to village and district levels and stressed for the institutionalizing the Hurriyat, but here also they failed us,†Shah claimed, and added that even in 2010 his efforts of reunification of separatist camps did not yield as “various elements did not want it to happen.â€
“We were left with no option other than to call a meeting of apex body where we have unanimously decided to call back Mahmood Sagar from the Azad Kashmir chapter of Hurriyat Conference,†Shah told news agency. Sagar was Convener of the Hurriyat in PaK chapter.
Meanwhile, Mehmood Sagar confirmed to news agency about the development and said that he has resigned from the PaK Chapter after he was asked by the apex body of his party to do so.
“For me movement is more important than holding any post. I have conveyed my decision to Hurriyat and will be formally putting in my papers on Friday in a hurriedly called meeting of the Hurriyat here,†Sagar told news agency over phone from across the Line of Control.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq chose to downplay the development and said that resignation of Sagar was part of the restructuring of the Hurriyat.
“We have been busy in restructuring Hurriyat over a certain period of time now. We have constituted various committees including legal, media and public relation cells which have already began functioning. We have already decided to do the same in AJK chapter and the process would be undertaken very shortly,†Mirwaiz told.
