Mumbai, Mar 19 The BSE Sensex on Tuesday tumbled down 538 points to 72,208 in the opening session as selling was seen across the board.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 179.85 points to 21875.85.
The Sensex registered intraday highs and lows at 72,490.09 and 72,068.37 points, respectively.
The Nifty registered intraday highs and lows at 21978.30 and 21,833.25 points, respectively.
The midcap fell by 1.15 pc and the small cap fell by 0.77 pc.
In 30 scrips, 6 advanced, while 24 declined.
The losers were Nestle India Ltd. by 3.27 per cent to Rs. 2499.20, TCS by 2.89 per cent to Rs. 4024.85, IndusInd Bank by 1.88 per cent to Rs. 1453 and L&T by 1.69 per cent to Rs. 3497.
The gainers were Bajaj Finance by 1.19 pc to Rs 6580, Bharti Airtel by 0.84 pc to Rs 1235.35, Kotak Bank by 0.41 pc to Rs 1085.60 and HDFC Bank by 0.26 pc to Rs 1450.
