Mumbai, Oct 25 The equity market continued to slid for the fifth straight session on Wednesday, as the BSE Sensex tumbled down 522.82 pts to close at 64,049.06 amid mixed Asian Market and heavy selling in Technology, Telecommunications, Utilities and Industrials stocks.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 159.60 pts at 19,122.15.
The Sensex opened up at 64,619.21, rising 48 pts. It was jumped 210 pts at 64,787.08, days high. Later, it erased earlier gains and dropped 659 pts at 63,912.16 pts, before closing at 64,049.06, sinking 522.82 pts from its previous close.
The stocks include Technology, Telecommunications, Utilities and Industrials remained under pressure.
Technology fell by 1.39 pc followed by Telecommunications by 1.29 pc, Utilities by 1.25 pc and Industrials by 1.30 pc.
In scrips, Infosys was declined by 2.58 pc to Rs 1372.60, Bharti Airtel by 1.90 pc to Rs 921.85, NTPC by 1.67 pc to Rs 232.50, Tata Motors by 1.54 pc to Rs 637.35 and IndusInd Bank by 1.52 pc to Rs 1416.50.
The gainers were Tata Steel by 1.17 pc to Rs 121.40, SBI by 0.62 pc to Rs 556.50, Maruti Suzuki by 0.57 pc to Rs 1571.10 .
The Mid Cap eased by 0.52 pc and Small Cap by 0.77 pc.
In 30 scrips, 6 advanced while 24 declined.
In Asian Market, Strait Times fell by 0.17 pc and Kospi by 0.86 pc while Hang Seng was up by 0.55 pc and Taiwan Straight by 0.30 pc.
