Mumbai, Aug 4 Snapping a winning streak of last six sessions, the BSE Sensex on Thursday fell 51.73 points at 58,298.80 ahead of the RBI policy to be announced on Friday.
The Sensex opened higher by 221 points at 58,571.28. It rallied by 362 points at 58,712.66, the day’s high. It dropped 773 points at 57,577.05, the day’s low, before closing at 58,298.80, easing 51.73 points from its previous close.
The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 58,712.66 and 57,577.05 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,490.79 and 17,161.25 respectively.
Sectoral indices like telecom, realty, bankex and finance stocks dragged the market.
In scrips, NTPC was a major loser, falling 3.32 per cent to Rs 154.45 followed by SBI by 1.61 per cent to Rs 532.10, Axis Bank by 1.40 per cent to Rs 720.10, Reliance Industries by 1.34 per cent to Rs 2,571 and Kotak Bank by 1.10 per cent to Rs 1,831.
The gainers were Sun Pharma by 2.46 per cent to Rs 919, Nestle India Ltd by 2.39 per cent to Rs 19,834.80, Infosys by 2.06 per cent to Rs 1,597.35 and Dr Reddy’s Lab by 1.33 per cent to Rs 4,149.
The Mid Cap rose by 0.29 per cent and Small Cap by 0.25 per cent.
In 30 scrips, 16 advanced while 14 declined.
