Mumbai, July 27 The BSE Sensex on Thursday tanked 440.38 pts to settle at 66,266.82 on profit booking by local operators.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 118.40 points to 19,659.90.
A see-saw trend was witnessed today in the equity market on Thursday, as the Sensex opened higher at 66,834.12, up 127 pts. It rallied 277 points to 66,984.17, a day high.
Later, it slumped nearly 647 pts to 66,060.74, a day’s low, before closing at 66,266.82, still 440.38 pts down from its previous close.
The stocks, which include Auto, Oil and Gas, energy, and FMCG, dragged the market.
Auto was a major loser, falling by 1.28 percent, followed by Oil and Gas by 1.09 percent, energy by 0.85 percent, and FMCG by 0.74 percent.
The midcap rose by 0.48 percent and the small cap by 0.07 percent.
In 30 scrips, M & M was a major loser, sliding by 6.25 pc to Rs 1448.95, followed by Tach Mahindra by 3.68 pc to Rs 1102, Nestle India Ltd by 2.08 pc to Rs 22,330.60, Bajaj Finance by 1.93 pc to Rs 7288, and Axis Bank by 1.55 pc to Rs 961.70.
The gainers were Sun Pharma by 2 pc to Rs 1134, Bharti Airtel by 0.99 pc to Rs 897.15, Tata Motors by 0.87 pc to Rs 646.15, L&T by 0.63 pc to Rs 2663.15, and Infosys by 0.48 pc to Rs 1355.35.
However, the Asian Market remained positive, as Nikkei went up by 0.68 percent, Straight Times by 0.97 percent, and Hang Seng by 1.40 percent.
