Kargil, April 25, 2024: The Cultural Committee of Govt. Degree College Kargil, in collaboration with 31st Punjab Battalion of Indian Army, celebrated the “Rajat Jayanti,” marking the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The event included the inauguration of a new “Selfie Point” in Mulbekh, honored by the presence of esteemed veterans. The inauguration, led by local Ex-Serviceman Naik Mohd Hussain, Sena Medal (SM), stands as a testament to the valor and sacrifice of our armed forces, symbolizing unity and patriotism.
Nestled amidst the breathtaking Zanskar ranges of Kargil, this selfie point pays homage to the unwavering spirit of our soldiers while promoting tourism and patriotism in the region.
Embellished with the hashtags #INDIA and #KVDRajatJayanti, it invites visitors to capture moments of reverence for our brave soldiers.
Offering panoramic views of the rugged terrain and the serene beauty of the surrounding landscapes, the selfie point provides tourists with a unique opportunity to delve into the region’s rich history and natural splendor.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by veterans, school and college students, as well as leaders and members of religious communities, served as a poignant reminder of the courage and valor displayed by armed forces during the Kargil conflict. A vibrant cultural performance by students of GDC Kargil added to the event’s significance.
Beyond honoring the heroes, the selfie point aims to boost tourism in Kargil and showcase the region’s cultural heritage and hospitality. Its strategic location and breathtaking vistas are expected to attract tourists from across the country and beyond, thereby bolstering the local economy and instilling a sense of pride among the residents of Kargil. Notably, this marks the third such selfie point constructed by the Indian Army this month, including ones at Khaltse and Hamboting La.
The students from Government Degree College Kargil were accompanied by Taira Banoo, Assistant Professor English and Tsewang Lhamo Physical Education Master.
