Secretary Sports MYAS reviews progress under PM’s Sports package

JAMMU, OCTOBER 20 : The Secretary, Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Government of India Rajiv Yadav today convened a meeting to review the latest status of work on various projects being undertaken as part of the special 200 crore package allocated from the Prime Minister’s Development Package for boosting sports infrastructure in the state.
During the review the Secretary said that the aim of this is to engage youth in constructive sporting activities so that they can compete at national and international platforms.
The package provides for construction of indoor sporting halls in all districts of the State with a view to provide sports facilities to youth throughout the year.
The meeting was informed that two stadiums in the State capitals of Srinagar and Jammu will be upgraded to the international standards under the package while the infrastructural facilities in existing stadia at Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur will be enhanced.
During the meeting, detailed review was also held regarding physical and financial progress made on ground regarding construction of all indoor sporting halls coming up in various districts.
Rajiv Yadav directed to constitute a subcommittee to be headed by Divisional Commissioner Jammu for proper execution and monitoring of the development works besides smooth coordination between various agencies. He also instructed the concerned to utilize the savings in civil cost for purchase of sporting equipments. He further instructed the Youth Services and Sports (YSS) department to tie up with tourism department and jointly provide lodgings for players participating in various sporting events.
Present in the meeting were Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Joint Secretary (Development) MYAS, GOI, Secretary YSS J&K, Director (Infra) MYAS, GOI, Director YSS J&K, Director Tourism Jammu, representatives from NPCC and other concerned offices and agencies.
Later, the team from MYAS, GOI along with Secretary, YSS, J&K Hilal Ahmad Parray and Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal visited the MAM Stadium and took stock of the existing facility and provisions to be made to upgrade it to international standards.
The team also visited the GGM science college to review the possibilities for integrating the playing facilities available at the college especially for Athletics and Hockey with the MAM Stadium.
