Srinagar, May 26 (KMW): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on recently said revoking Article 370 of Indian Constitution, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is very much there on its agenda and will be scrapped whenever the party got required majority in the state assembly and parliament.
“Article 370 of the Constitution continues to be part of our (BJPs) core ideology and will scrap it whenever we garner the required numbers in Parliament and state assembly,” said BJPs national spokesperson, Sambit Patra to reporters here recently.
Patra was in the town to address inaugural session of one day state media workshop organized in connection with party’s upcoming ‘Maha Sampark Abhiyaan’.
Replying to reporters query on BJPs stand on state’s special status, he said, “Article 370 continues to be part of our core ideology and repealing this Article would require a two-third majority in Parliament, as constitution would have to be amended,” he said, adding, “But right now we don’t have enough numbers in Parliament to do away with it. In future when we have the required numbers we will work towards its removal.”
On BJP-PDP coalition, he said, “Both parties have different ideologies but came together to provide a stable government to the people of the state and for the sake of development.”
“The people here want development. The coalition has provided a historic opportunity by respecting the mandate of the people of all the three regions. Now it should become a successful experiment for the sake of good governance and development,” he said.
