SRINAGAR: The famous tourist resort Sonamarg which was closed for last 4 months due to snowfall, today formally thrown open for public and tourist movement.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon flagged off the traffic movement at Srinagar-Sonamarg road here today.
The Divisional Commissioner earlier reviewed the status of the road with Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Mr. Itrat Hussain Rafique and Chief Engineer Beacon, Brig. P.S. Rohit.
The Chief Engineer Beacon informed the Divisional Commissioner that the snow has been cleared on the Ladakh highway upto Sonamarg spot. He was informed that the last year road was thrown open on April first.
The Divisional Commissioner on the occasion said that with the great efforts of divisional and district administration Ganderbal, the road was thrown open 15 days earlier and hoped that good number of tourists would visit the tourist spot.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Chief Engineer Beacon, concerned officers and good number of people were also present on the occasion. (KMW News)
