Restrictions imposed to foil HC rally in Srinagar

Srinagar: Curfew like situation prevailed today in the down-town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) to foil moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) rally and at Eidgah on the 21st death anniversary of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq.
HC Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq had also announced to lay foundation stone of martyrs memorial at Eidgah on the occasion.
Authorities said decision to impose strict restrictions under section 144 CrPC was taken at a high level meeting to maintain peace.
They said any Assembly which disturbs peace or public tranquility and creates law and order problem would not be allowed.
All roads leading to Eidgah graveyard were sealed with barbed wire since last night.
Several dozen tents, pitched at Eidgah grounds for the rally were removed by the authorities late last night. 
Correspondent who visited the area saw hundreds of state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed in and around the Eidgah to thwart the rally.
Nobody was being allowed to enter the Eidgah ground by the security forces, wearing bullet proof jackets, holding automatic weapons and lathis and shields in their hands.
However, the main Eidgah road to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) was open and those carrying hospital documents were being allowed to go.
