Madrid, June 2 Spanish and European champions Real Madrid on Thursday confirmed Antonio Rudiger as their first signing for the new season.
The German international central defender joins for free after his contract with Chelsea expired and he will give further options to an already solid Real Madrid back-line.
“Real Madrid C.F. have reached an agreement to sign Antonio Rudiger, who joins the club on a four-year deal,” confirms the Real Madrid website, adding he will be officially be presented on June 12.
Rudiger moves to Real Madrid after five seasons with Chelsea, who he joined from Roma in 2017. His pace will allow him to partner Eder Militao in the heart of the Real Madrid defense, while allowing David Alaba to provide cover at left back following Marcelo’s departure.
Rudiger netted 12 goals in 203 appearances for Chelsea and he will also give Carlo Ancelotti’s side an extra threat from set pieces.
