Srinagar | Tuesday, Sep 2 : Rains in Kashmir dropped the maximum and minimum temperature with breeze and rain, affecting hundreds of marriage ceremonies in the valley.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that light rain or thundershowers would occur at many places in the state during the next 24 hours.
There would be increase in precipitation during subsequent four days, he said.
Woollen, particularly sweaters and half jackets, are out in the valley, where the maximum and minimum temperatures witnessed six degrees and one degree drop respectively during the past 24 hours due to rain.
After recording one degree below normal temperature, people wokeup to yet another cloudy morning which was followed by rain.
Hundreds of marriage ceremonies were affected due to rain though the hosts had made adequate arrangements in the areas where the food was being cooked for guests.
The Met spokesman said the summer capital, Srinagar, also recorded below normal temperatures after rain.
He said the maximum temperature in the city was 23.1 degrees, six degrees below normal while the maximum was recorded 14.8 degrees, a notch below normal.
There is a possibility of rain or thundershowers in Srinagar tomorrow and both temperatures would remain below normal.
He said world famous ski resort of Gulmarg recorded 8.2 degrees, two degrees below normal minimum temperature while it was 12.9 degrees at Kokernag, a notch below normal.
However, at famed health resort of Pahalgam, Qazigund and Kupwara the minimum was above normal.
Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region recorded 12.3 degrees and 13 degrees minimum temperature respectively, he said adding that there could be light rain or thundershowers at Leh tomorrow when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 21 degrees and 12 degrees respectively. (agency)
