New Delhi, Aug 4 Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday called the raids on National Herald premises by the Enforcement Directorate an “intimidation attempt” of the Modi government, and stated that the Congress will not be pressured into silence.
Asked about the raids on locations linked with the National Herald, Rahul Gandhi said: “Are you asking about National Herald… This is an intimidation attempt. They think they can pressurise us into silence.
“We will keep standing up against what Narendra Modiji and Amit Shahji are doing against democracy in this country.
“They can do whatever they like (to stop us), it does not make any difference.
“It’s my duty to protect this country, the democracy, to maintain harmony in the country. I will keep doing that whatever they may do.”
Later, the Congress leader shared a video of his statement on Twitter and said, “Truth cannot be barricaded. Do whatever you want to do, I am not afraid of the Prime Minister, I will always work in the interest of the country. Listen to it and understand.”
The ED on Wednesday carried out searches at the Herald House and various locations in Delhi and other places in the National Herald case over alleged money laundering.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi was questioned by ED in the case on July 21, 26 and 27.
Rahul Gandhi was also questioning by the probe agency for five days for over 50 hours.
The National Herald case is related to a complaint filed in the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate that Associated Journals Limited (AJL) took an interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore from Indian National Congress, which was not been paid back.
Congress has maintained there has been no money laundering involved, and has called the summon a politically motivated move by the Modi government.
