SRINAGAR: Minister for Rural Development, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that the pavilion at Radapora stadium in the old city would be developed on international pattern for the convenience of the sports persons participating in various sports activities.
The Minister was speaking at the function held during the Finals of Naqashband Sahib T-20 cricket championship held by J&K Sports Council.
Minister for Youth Services, Sports and Medical Education, Mr. R. S. Chib, Secretary Sports Council, Mr. Kiran Wattal, Ex-Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Mr. Salman Sagar prominent sports personalities, eminent citizens of the area were present.
Referring to the government’s initiative to upgrade the existing sports infrastructure, the Minister said that various stadia across the state have been upgraded so that the sports persons participating in various games get the required facilities. He said that by participating in different sports the talent of the local youth gets channelized in a proper manner, so that they can effectively compete at national and international level.
The Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R. S. Chib while speaking on the occasion, said that due to the sustained efforts of the government stadia have been constructed / upgraded at different districts as well as blocks in the state. He said that providing quality sports infrastructure to the sports persons forms one of the priorities of the government so that our local talent gets the requisite facilities and exposure to compete nationally as well as globally.
While thanking the Union government for its liberal support for the development of the sports infrastructure, the Minister said that the Centre has already provided Rs. 35 crore for the same and we will ensure that the funds are utilized to the maximum in a judicious manner.
The Ministers also announced Rs. 10, 000/- each for the winning team and Rs. 5,000/- for the runners up. Besides Rs. 48, 000/- was also announced as a prize money by the Secretary Sports Council for the participating teams.
Radapora-XI, Khanyar defeated Hamdania Cricket Club, Pampore by 3 runs in a closely contested finals today. 32 teams participated in the T-20 Khawaja Naqashband Sahib Cricket Championship which was organized by the J&K Sports Council.
