Raas Rang — Annual Production of Nrityanjali A Classical Dance Academy Presented at Abhinav Theatre

Jammu, January 6: Nrityanjali – A Classical Dance Academy Jammu, presented its annual production “Raas Rang” this evening at Abhinav Theatre under the banner of Rangyug A Performing Arts Foundation, Jammu. The production was a soulful ode to Lord Krishna, reflecting devotion, grace and the vibrant spirit of Indian classical dance.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Ms. Pallavi Mishra, IAS, SDM Marh, along with Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu and  Suresh Sharma, Receiver, Panchvaktar Mandir & Deevana Mandir. The function was presided over by Padma Shri Prof. Lalit Mangotra.

Special Guests on the occasion included Hardeep Singh Anand, Chairperson, Jammu Sanskriti School, and renowned Ayurvedic doctor and poet, Dr. Anil Mahajan. Kritika Dutt, Director, Nrityanjali, read out a special goodwill message received from Kuwarani Dr. Ritu Singh.

Around 50 students of Nrityanjali presented aesthetically rich and spiritually evocative performances.

The evening opened with a solo performance by Kritika Dutt, followed by a series of group presentations depicting various shades of Krishna Bhakti.

The Sub-Junior Group presented “Kanha Re”, performed by Amyra, Shreya, Charvee, Radhika, Digantika, Maiyra, Hrutvy, Aadhya, Sharadha, Samanvi, Sayesha, Shihij, Shivi, and Yashaswini.

The Senior Girls Group presented “Bhar Bhari”, featuring Saachi Sundeep Bhat, Manikarnika Sharma, Akshita Bhardwaj, Twinkle Talwar, Urvashi Mahajan, Annie Koul, Arika Maurya, Priyanka Raina, Angana Kohli, Sonika Sharma, and Rajni Devi Katoch.

The Intermediate Group performed “Tarana”, presented by Namasya, Shanaya, Kangana, Aaradhya, Aryahi, Ridhi, Divanshi, Aarvi, Aadhwika, and Mahira.

The programme concluded with a powerful rendition of “Nirtat Dang”, a traditional composition penned by Pandit Bindadin Maharaj, grandfather of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. The piece was presented by the Advance Group comprising Spriha, Priyal, Sumukhi, Aanandita, Naamya, Anaya, Aadya, Ojasvi, Agamya, Maithili, Swara, and Bhavani.

Narration and compering were done by Rajkumar Behrupia. A special documentary showcasing Nrityanjali’s activities during 2025 was screened during the programme. Costumes were designed by Dr. Priya Dutta, Honorary Director, Nrityanjali, and stitched by Anjali Boutique. Make-up was provided by Neel David Salon and Renu Ji. Music editing was done by Akash Dogra, while music compilation was by Lopamudra. Refreshments were arranged by Shikha Jain, Director, Arsh and esteemed member of Nrityanjali.

Backstage support was provided by Saba, Ritika, Simpy, and Rahul, while technical support was handled by Vijay Kumar. The welcome address was delivered by Deepak Kumar, Director, Rangyug, and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Priya Dutta. Special handcrafted gifts from IKYEM, Kerala, were presented to the dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Ms. Pallavi Mishra, IAS, said that “Raas Rang is not only a cultural presentation but a spiritual journey that connects young minds with the values of devotion, discipline and artistic excellence.”

Padma Shri Prof. Lalit Mangotra appreciated the academy’s artistic vision, stating that “Nrityanjali has created a meaningful cultural space in Jammu. The performances reflected strong training, refined choreography and aesthetic depth.”

Registrar, University of Jammu, Mr. Neeraj Sharma, remarked that such productions strengthen the region’s cultural identity and encourage children to cherish classical traditions.

Dr. Anil Mahajan said that “Raas Rang beautifully blended poetry, rhythm, and devotion, and it was heartening to see young artistes performing with such sincerity.”

Mr. Hardeep Singh Anand added that Nrityanjali continues to nurture young talent with dedication and commitment. The dedication of students and guidance of the gurus deserve high appreciation”.

All dignitaries congratulated Dr. Priya Dutta and the entire Nrityanjali team for presenting a refined and artistically rich classical dance production.
