Hyderabad, Sep 17 AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge on Sunday called upon leaders to prioritise the party’s success in the upcoming elections in the country by putting aside their personal differences.
In his speech at the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at a star hotel here, Kharge said: “We must exercise self-restraint and avoid going to the media with statements against our leaders or party so that the party’s interests are not harmed”.
Deliberating on a strategy for the upcoming assembly polls in five states – Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram -, the meeting was also attended by PCC Presidents and CLP leaders.
Organisational unity is of utmost importance, Kharge said, adding “Only through unity and discipline can we defeat our adversaries.
“This was evident in Karnataka, where we remained united and fought with discipline to achieve success,” the Congress Chief said.
He said the Congress is working with the goal of defeating the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and forming an alternative government in the country.
“We are all aware of the challenges that lie ahead and these challenges aren’t just those of the Congress; they concern the survival of Indian democracy and the preservation of the Indian Constitution, ” he said.
Elections in five states are scheduled in the next two to three months, while the Lok Sabha elections are only six months away., Kharge said while reminding the party to be prepared for possible Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Congress governments in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have pioneered a new model of Social Justice and Welfarism and we must publicize these welfare schemes across the country,” he said.
He said during the last 10 years under BJP rule, the challenges faced by ordinary people have multiplied. The Prime Minister refuses to address the concerns of the poor, farmers, labourers, women, and youth. “Actually, he cannot look beyond himself”.
“In such circumstances, we cannot remain mute spectators. We must unite and overthrow this dictatorial government in order to save our democracy,” the Congress Chief said.
The people are looking for an alternative and the Congress party’s victories in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka elections are clear proof of this, he said.
2024 also marks the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s election as the Congress President. The most fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi would be to oust the BJP from power in 2024, he asserted.
“From Telangana, we will go with renewed strength and a clear message”.
“We leave Hyderabad today with a firm commitment: to win not only in Telangana but in all upcoming elections, relieving people from the miseries of BJP’s misrule,” he added.
