Srinagar: District Pulwama took lead in the Kashmir valley to announce measures to curb violence against women, particularly travelling in public transport.
An official spokesman said in connection with eradication of of eve-teasing and violence against women, a meeting of District Legal Services Authority under the Chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Pulwama was held today.
The meeting after threadbare discussion issued instruction to the managers of the vehicles to get buses registered with the nearest police stations.
The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) and Deputy Superintendent of police headquarters shall follow up the action.
Besides, the drivers and conductors of passenger vehicles shall display their name and contact numbers in bold at conspicuous places both inside and outside their vehicles.
The operators shall maintain the record of all type of vehicles carrying women passengers supposed to depart after 1700 hrs with place of departure, timing, destination, vehicle number and name of driver.
These registers shall be checked frequently by the ARTO and police.
