Srinagar, Oct 21 (Only Kashmir): In the race of prestigious post of new Governor for the picturesque and turbulent state of Jammu& Kashmir two names are in spotlight -Former Director General of Police, Punjab, Paramdeep Singh (PS) Gill who was an IPS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre and retired senior top Army Official General Hasnain. A brief look at the probable candidates of would be the next Governor of Jammu and Kashmir offer exciting picture. Pertinently, PS Gill, who retired as DGP Punjab was brought to the state of Punjab from Jammu and Kashmir in 2009 to ensure his appointment as DGP. He also fought the assembly election in Punjab.
PS Gill joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in the year 1974 and served in various capacities in J&K police. He served as Director, Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur, ADGP Armed, vigilance Commissioner and Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir. He is known as dynamic police official with effective professional skills and a man possessing dynamic and diverse capabilities earning him respect as the vibrant face in the world of policing in India. According to experts, Mr. Gill’s policing experience in Jammu & Kashmir and his vibrant attitude could be the contributing factors in his possible journey towards becoming the next Governor of Jammu & Kashmir. Critics say P.S.Gill can play a key role in Jammu and Kashmir as Governor.
On the other hand, General Atta Hasnain also possesses diverse creative capabilities . Lt Gen (Retd) Ata Hasnain was General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 Corps and is presently a Visiting Fellow of the Vivekananda International Foundation, New Delhi. According to experts, his crucial appointment in J& K in various capacities goes to his credit for this assignment. He is also known to be a persona having dynamic literary skills and is a prolific writer and speaker. It worth to mention that the governor of Jammu and Kashmir State is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, which oversees all arrangements of the yatra in coordination with civil, army, state police and security forces. Therefore, it will be a difficult job for General Hussnain to head the Shrine Board being a Muslim.
According to reliable sources, Only Kashmir has learnt that Others who are in the race for the post of Governor of Jammu and Kashmir included former IB Chief, Nechal Sandhu and Advisor to the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, T K A Niar, and A.S. Dulat ( Former RAW Chief ) †sources said.
