Srinagar: In an effort to lay to rest the controversy created by his alleged remarks on the viability of UN resolutions, senior Hurriyat Conference leader Prof Abdul Gani Bhat has disowned the remarks and expressed regret over the harm and pain caused by them.
Speaking at the executive committee meeting of the Hurriyat Conference at its Rajbagh headquarters Wednesday Bhat disowned the remarks where he was reported to have termed the UN resolutions as ‘obsolete’. “I have the recording of my public address. What I had said was that UN resolutions are the legal basis of Kashmir issue and their not being implemented was sadâ€, a statement issued by Hurriyat Conference quoted Bhat of having said in his statement. “However, the words like obsolete, irrelevant and nonviable, which have been associated with me by newspapers, were not uttered by me. If my statement had caused pain to freedom lovers of the state, I express my regretâ€, he was quoted of having said.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference Chairman while speaking during the meeting impressed upon all the Hurriyat members to honour the constitution of Hurriyat Conference. “Hurriyat conference is the representative organization of the sentiments of Kashmiris and it is the responsibility of every leader to maintain its sanctityâ€, Mirwaiz said. “Members should refrain from violating the constitution of the Hurriyat and act with great deal of responsibilityâ€, he added.
Among others the meeting was attended by Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Aga Syed Hassan, Masroor Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Mussadiq Adil.
However, senior Hurriyat leaders Shabir Ahmad Shah could not attend the meeting on account of their house arrest. Peoples Conference Chairman Bilal Gani Lone remained absent from the meeting due to ill health.
Meanwhile, conceding to the demands of the some of its members, the Hurriyat Conference will hold a joint session of the Executive and General Councils of the amalgam. The house arrest of Shabir Ahmad Shah was also condemned during the meeting.
