Pro-freedom demos in Baramulla, Sopore

Srinagar: Scores of people staged pro-freedom demonstrations in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday. Correspondent from North Kashmir said that hundreds of people mainly youth after offering Friday prayers at central mosque (Bait-ul-Mukarram) took out a pro-freedom procession in the town. Shouting “We want freedom,” “Islam Zindabad,” pro-Geelani and anti-India slogans the protesters tried to march on the streets of the town. When the protesters reached near cement bridge, heavy posse of policemen intercepted them. Angry protesters hurled stones on the forces triggering clashes between the two sides. The clashes continued for some time. However, no reports of injury to any person were received. Meanwhile, reports reaching from Sopore said that scores of people after offering Friday prayers took to streets and staged pro-freedom demonstrations at main Chowk today afternoon. Besides shouting pro-freedom slogans, the protesters also pelted stones on the CRPF troops and police. No reports of injuries in the clashes were received. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that situation remained normal and no reports of any untoward incident were received from any place of the Valley. “Day passed off peacefully. Moreover, Friday prayers also concluded peacefully throughout Kashmir Valley today,” the spokesman added.
