UDHAMPUR: It is a moment of pride for Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur when Prarena Jamwal, daughter of Pardeep Jamwal and Sudha, and a native of Tikri, Chanas in Udhampur district, has been awarded the  Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar for her outstanding research work in superconductivity. Her PhD dissertation, entitled “Electron-Phonon Mediated Superconductivity in Transition Metal-Based Two-Dimensional Materials,” delves into advanced properties of superconducting materials, which might have profound implications for future energy transmission technology, quantum computing, and electronics.
Superconductivity, which describes the ability of materials to conduct electricity with no resistance at very low temperatures, has been one of the active areas in condensed matter physics.
Prarena’s research addresses two-dimensional transition metal materials, examining how electron-phonon coupling enables superconductivity. Her work can help develop more efficient superconducting materials, which could transform industries that depend on high-performance electrical systems.

Her success reflects the promise of ability rising from small towns and villages if offered opportunities in top-ranked institutions like IIT Ropar. Family members,Relatives , and local people have welcomed her success, having pride in her hard work and contributions to pioneering scientific work. With her Ph.D. in hand, Prarena will most likely continue her search for further research or academic positions and carry on investigating higher materials science.
