New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will leave on a three-day visit to the US tomorrow to take part in a India-US Economic and Financial Partnership conference.Mr Mukherjee will also attend bilateral and Cabinet-level meetings with his US counterpart of Treasury, Macroeconomic and Financial Sector Reforms Timothy Geithner.
On the first day of his visit, he will deliver a keynote address on the India-US Economic and Financial partnership forum along with Mr Geithner.
Different sessions of the day-long conference, being organised by Confederation of Indian Industry in collaboration with Brookings Institute of US, will also be addressed by Department of Economic Affairs Secretary R Gopalan, Finance Ministry Chief Economic Adviser Kaushik Basu, RBI Deputy Governor Subir Gokarn and SEBI Chairman U K Sinha among others.
In the evening, Mr Mukherjee will hold a bilateral meeting with Mr Geithner and discuss the issues of mutual interest and general world economic situation.
The next day, the Finance Minister will participate in the Cabinet-level meeting of the Indo-US Financial and Economic Partnership.
The Indian delegation includes RBI Governor D Subbarao, Department of Financial Services Secretary Shashikant Sharma, Forward Markets Commissions Chairman B C Khatua, and Indian Ambassador to US Meera Shankar.
The meeting will focus on macroeconomic issues, including macro over viewing, global re-balancing and G-20: Role of the US and India, global capital flows and its implications for advanced and emerging economies, currency market volatility, management of capital inflows, infrastructure financing and public private partnership along with general global economic outlook.
Both the sides are also likely to discuss issues related to financial sector reforms, including financial regulatory reforms both in India and the US, commodity pricing, financial markets and financial inclusion among others.
In the afternoon, Mr Mukherjee will attend a luncheon meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of Indian and American companies.
This will be followed by a bilateral meeting with US National Security Adviser.
He will return home on June 29.
