SRINAGAR: On the eve of 63rd republic day of India, Life was crippled in the Kashmir Valley due to a general strike call given by Chairman of Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Political Party (PPP), Chairman, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War. Both the leaders reiterated their stand that Government of India has no moral and legal justification to celebrate Republic Day in Jammu and Kashmir and the Indian troops have no legal ground to be in Jammu and Kashmir .
Shops and business establishments in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, remained closed and traffic was off the roads.
Heavy security was deployed across Srinagar and other major towns in the state to foil any attempt to disturb the R-Day function held at the Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.
