Srinagar, June 29: Social activist Ajaz Ahmad War has voiced deep concern over persistent power outages in Maisuma, noting that residents endure nearly two hours of load-shedding during the day and an additional two hours each evening.
The disruption persists despite the area being fully metered and cabled two months ago, an upgrade that was meant to enhance supply reliability and curb curtailment, War said.
Residents of the densely populated commercial hub report that unscheduled power cuts are disrupting daily life, hampering businesses, upending household routines, and affecting students’ studies. Shopkeepers note that frequent outages during peak evening hours are taking a heavy toll on trade, while households struggle to carry out essential chores during daytime curtailment. The ongoing heatwave has further compounded the hardship, locals added.
“Metering was implemented with assurances of uninterrupted supply, but the ground reality tells a different story. Residents are paying their bills on time yet face up to four hours of outages daily. This is unacceptable,” War remarked.
He has urged the Chief Engineer of the Power Development Department and the concerned Executive Engineer to intervene promptly and address the issue. War also called on the department to strictly adhere to the announced curtailment schedule.
Residents have demanded that PDD officials clarify the reasons behind the continued outages and provide a concrete timeline for restoring uninterrupted supply to Maisuma.
