Srinagar, Dec 10 (KMW): Resorting to traditional dictatorial tactics, authorities placed APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to prevent him from participating in the proposed peaceful sit-in in connection with International Day for Human Rights. Apart from Mirwaiz, a number of hurriyat leaders were either placed under house arrest or locked up in police stations to foil the hurriyat sit in programme thereby violating all the human and democratic rights of Kashmiris.Â
The authorities left no stone unturned to stop hurriyat leaders and people from participating in the sit in to peacefully protest the human rights violation in Kashmir by means of share force and state sponsored terrorism.
Senior hurriyat leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi Al Safvi, Moulana Abbas Ansari, Bilal gani lone, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, and Syed Salim geelani were put under house arrest while Mukhtar Ahmad Waza was arrested in Police station Sher Bagh, islambad, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War in Police station Kothi Bagh, and Ghulam Mohammad Nagoo at Police station Rainawari. The hurriyat headquarters at Rajbagh was surrounded by heavy contingent of police to restrict the movement of hurriyat leaders to reach the office.
Meanwhile, hurriyat convened several peaceful protest programmes in length and breadth of Kashmir including Srinagar to divert the attention of international community and human rights organizations towards rights violation in the state. The participants drew the attention of word community towards continuous bloodshed, torture, state sponsored terrorism, and restricting the political social religious activities of Kashmiri leaders.
A hurriyat delegation led by senior hurriyat leader Musadiq Adil including Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Hakim Abdul Rashid, Abdul Rashid untoo and others protested against the rights violations in Kashmir in Press colony Srinagar. Later, the police used forces against the peaceful protesters and arrested Zaffar Akbar Bhat and and Ghulam Mohammad Mir. Similarly, senior leaders including Javaid Ahmad Mira, GN Zaki and others were arrested police when they took out a protest march on the international day for human rights at Mirwaiz manzil at Rajouri kadal. Prof Habibbulah jeelani addressed a gathering at Khanq-e-Moula during which he condemned the house arrest of APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar farooq and other leaders.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Mirwaiz stressed upon the defenders of human rights around the world and international community to pressurize India to stop rights violations in Kashmir. He said India by virtue of militarization and imposing black laws was subjecting Kashmiris to worst rights violations which include death, torture, and restricting the political and religious activities of genuine leadership of Kashmir. He said that one lakh people have been killed, thousands have been orphaned and widowed, 8500 unmarked graves are dotting the Kashmir landscape, 9500 people have been subjected to enforced disappearance, hundreds of Kashmiris are lodged in jails and entire population of Kashmir has been bruised by both mental and physical torture.
“India is has violated all basic norms of humanity in Kashmir. Rights violation commited by her would remain an ugly blot on humanity†Mirwaiz said
Mirwaiz said due to Kashmir issue, south asia remains instable and the time has come that world community uses its influence to solve the issue for once and all to bring lasting peace in the region.
