Srinagar: The Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani Tuesday said it will take legal action against the state government for “
Addressing a press conference at his Hyderpora seizing†calendars and diaries published by one of the amalgam’s constituent parties, Tehreek-Hurriyat. Residence today, Geelani alleged that the police had seized thousands of calendars and diaries published by Tehreek-Hurriyat from several book stalls and news agencies and, in some cases, even arrested the owners of the shops.
“We have decided to take the Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani, Home secretary BR Sharma and Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda, Inspector General of police, S M Sahia and SSP Budgam to court over the raids,†Geelani said.
Geelani said the government action was unjustified as the calendar had only “Islamic teachings inscribed on it.â€
“There is nothing on the calendars which would create a law and order problem or social or religious divisions in the society,†he said.
Elaborating, Geelani said the first page was about a brief description of Islam, “the religion of peace.â€
“The second page carries Surahs (chapters) of Quran while the rest of the pages carry messages and quotations about the basic human and moral values,†Geelani said.
“This is nothing but an attempt to muzzle the pro-freedom voices,†Geelani said, adding that he would move the court for “our freedom of expressionâ€
“If New Delhi and the puppet government here thinks that they can undermine our resolve for freedom by resorting to such petty tactics then they are mistaken,†Geelani said.
“Struggling for the right to self determination of Kashmiris is not politics for me, but part of my faith, and I will never surrender come what may,†Geelani said.
