Police seize 08 vehicles in Handwara

Handwara,February 18: Police have seized eight vehicles involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Handwara.

A police team from Police Post Langate, led by IC Police Post, seized four tippers and three tractors, while a team from Police Post Chogul seized one tipper engaged in illegal mineral extraction. The vehicles were challaned under relevant sections of the MMRD Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the owners and drivers.

This operation, conducted in collaboration with the Geology and Mining Department, is part of a sustained effort to dismantle illegal mining networks and protect the region’s natural resources. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to combating illegal mineral extraction, which threatens the environment and poses significant health risks to local communities.

J&K Police urge the public to report any such illegal activities by dialling 112. Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in unlawful mining practices.
