Police secure conviction in NDPS case against four accused in Kulgam

Kulgam, February 18: Police in Kulgam have secured conviction of four accused persons namely Mohd Aslam War son of Ghulam Hassan War resident of Arwani Bijebhara, Mehraj-ud-Din Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani resident of Nowpora, Kharpora, Waqar Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Yaseen Dar resident of Padshahi Bagh Srinagar and Bilal Ahmad Hanji Son of Mohammad Maqbool Hanji resident of Kharpora by virtue of judgement from Hon’ble Court of the Principal Sessions Judge Kulgam dated 23/01/2025 followed by Quantum of punishment dated 08/02/2025. The above-mentioned accused persons were convicted for the offences under section 8/20, 8/22 read with sec 29 NDPS act in case FIR No 21/2021 of Police Station Yaripora.

The accused were arrested on 26/04/2021, during naka checking by the police party of Police Post Frisal at Kharpora near playground and contraband recovery consists of 100 ML of 36 bottles without label and six bottles with label Cocax-Dx and two polythene bags, containing 130 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession. The prosecution presented multiple witnesses and multiple documents to prove the charges against the accused.

The court, after careful consideration of the evidence, found the accused guilty under Section 8/20, 8/22 of the NDPS Act and sentenced them to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,00,000/- each.

This successfully conviction demonstrates the commitment of J&K Police to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety and serves as a strong message against drug peddling and its propagators and reinforces the resolve to maintain a drug-free society.
