Beijing: Police in Beijing were called to a public toilet block when residents heard cries on Sunday. Officer Qian Feng found the newborn baby girl wedged face down in the pipe of the toilet.
A police station in western Beijing received the call from locals who said they could hear a baby crying in the public toilet. Feng had immediately rushed to the scene where he discovered the tiny infant.
“We could only see the baby’s feet from the side,†Qian Feng told the Beijing Times.
Qian also said that initially police had decided to dismantle the toilet, as the baby was in the drain, but that would take too long.
“She just kept crying. I looked again, and thought we should try to pull her out even if the possibility might be slim.â€
In the police video that was taken during the rescue, Qian can be seen kneeling by the toilet while reaching his right hand into the drain.

Once the baby was pulled to safety, the residents helped the police wrap the baby up before she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is now recovering. The baby had no apparent physical defects, the newspaper wrote.
According to RT, officers had also found blood around the lavatory bowl where the baby was found, which indicated she was born in the toilet and abandoned there. Police are now trying to establish the identity of the baby’s mother.
