Police officer shot dead in South Kashmir

Srinagar: An elderly police officer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district shortly after Friday prayers which created panic in the area.

Eyewitnesses told that News Agency Assistant Sub Inspector (78PL) was on duty at Rajpora Chowk of Pulwamma when assailants fired two to four bullets upon him. Though he was immediately rushed to hospital however the doctors declared him brought dead.
The slain police officer has been identified as Farooq Ahmed Shiekh son of Ali Mohammad Shiekh resident of Baran Pather Batamaloo. Pertinently, gunmen had shot dead four JK policemen in North Kashmir’s Hygam.
A police official told that ASI Farooq Ahmad Sheikh is survived by his wife, three daughters, and two sons. A guard of honour and wreath laying ceremony was held for the departed officer at Pulwama.
