Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has received some important leads in connection with the killing of Sopore man in the city centre, here on Monday afternoon. “We have got some leads in yesterday’s killings. The investigation process is on. Once the probe is done, details will be shared with you,†Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda told media men on the sidelines of a football tournament organized by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Bakshi Stadium.Khoda said though militants were involved in the killing, the personal reasons behind the assassination of the Sopore man, were also being looked into.Replying to a question about the presence of militants in this capital city, DGP said that he can’t speculate on the issue. However, he said that the yesterday’s incident has been done by a person who had a weapon with him. “So we have to guard against that. The security has always to be alert because the militancy has not finished as yet,†he said“The efforts from across are still on. And the capability and the intentions from the across to continue the militancy is still there. So we have to be alert,†he added.Police, he said will take due care of Srinagar as it is more sensitive than other parts of the Valley. “Our efforts are to secure not only Srinagar but the entire state. But obviously Srinagar is more sensitive so we have to be extra careful for that,†he added. On being asked about the media reports that suggest that only 117 local militants were active in the state, Khoda said “We don’t count militancy like that. But the general estimate is around 250-300 and 100 odd according to media reports may be more active type of militants,â€DGP also refuted the charges that the cops arrested several innocent people after some people attacked a marriage party in Batmaloo for bursting crackers. He said it was unfair to attack Baratis, who were expressing their joy.“Some people have been identified and some arrested. The investigations in this regard will be based on facts, not fabricated. The investigations will be transparent, I assure you,†he said.Replying to a question about the arrests of youth after the summer unrest, Khoda said “No, this is not the question of arrests, for the sake of arrests. Arrests are always made in case the person is wanted in connection with some crime. So we don’t have to fill up the numbers to arrest the people. And we don’t like arresting people,†he added.
